The Facebook-owned photo and video sharing app Instagram announced that it is adding landscape mode on IGTV. This will allow creators and viewers to enjoy landscape videos in full-screen by turning their phone sideways.
Why It Is A Big News?
Ever since the launch of IGTV, Instagram has struggled a lot to make the feature a prominent place for the users. With vertical video format, IGTV did not get the popularity as per the expectations, and still, it does not have as many users as other video streaming websites are having. This was the matter of concern from last year as Instagram has been working a lot to give IGTV an identity in the industry.
Adding landscape mode on IGTV seems like a desperate move of Instagram to compete with other videos streaming websites like YouTube and TikTok.
During the announcement, Instagram said, “We realize this is an evolution from where IGTV started — we believe it’s the right change for viewers and creators.” The company also added, “In many ways, opening IGTV to more than just vertical videos is similar to when we opened Instagram to more than just square photos in 2015. It enabled creativity to flourish and engagement to rise — and we believe the same will happen again with IGTV.”
As per the several blog posts and articles, it is cleared that the company is still worried about its standalone IGTV app. Adding landscape mode on IGTV is something like giving a power backup to the mobile when its battery is about to die.
According to Instagram, landscape video on IGTV will be beneficial for both viewers as they will be free to watch more content from their favorite creators.
Instagram launched IGTV last year with a motive to be the best video streaming place, but it didn’t work as per the expectations. IGTV launched as a standalone app which is also accessible from the main Instagram app.
